Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders among children and adolescents ages six to 20 years old. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to an adolescent who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and connect them to the appropriate care.
Mainly offered to individuals who live or work in McLean County, each participant leaves the course with a local resource and support packet. Individuals outside of McLean County, IL, are welcome to register as well. This affordable, full-day training may change the way you think about mental illness. Whether you are supporting a loved one or working with individuals who may have mental health challenges, you should leave this course understanding how to apply the ALGEE action plan:
Assess for risk of suicide or harm
Give reassurance and information
Encourage appropriate professional help
