Early Identification
(1) Identifying all expecting parents and children birth to five living in the community, and (2) assuring that developmental screenings and assessments are offered so that developmental delays are identified early
Some of the core work associated with a systematic approach to Early Identification:
- Developing a systematic process for regularly identifying all expecting parents and children birth to five
- Developing a systematic, routine, and comprehensive approach to providing developmental screenings and assessments so that developmental delays can be identified early
- Monitoring the screening process community-wide through ongoing collection of data and stories to:
- Evaluate the impact of early identification
- Identify potential opportunities to improve early identification processes and outcomes
- Identify potential population-based issues that need to be addressed e.g., an increased number of children who screen positively for mental health issues
- Continually improving all processes related to early identification
